Course Overview:

The purpose of this training course is to equip the participants with the knowledge of welding qualifications and the requirements attached to it as per the ASME Section IX standard.

The trainee will be able to understand how to read and use the requirements for the certification of welding procedures and welders including the drafting and filing of WPS, PQR and WPQ documents.

This course also contains information about the method and common types of Non-destructive testing (NDT) methods utilized during welding inspection, such as Weld visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic testing, and radiographic testing. Important lecture contents are welding process explanations, welder qualifications, test records, and the processes of locating discontinuities, and interpreting the meaning of discontinuities.

This course is suited for plant inspectors, QA/QC officers and those dealing with the welding qualifications and NDT tests.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • To introduce participants to the purpose and methodology of Welding Qualifications.
  • Learn how to understand, interpret, and comply with ASME Section IX requirements
  • How to conduct Procedure and Welder Tests, and certification of welders.
  • To provide a step-by-step approach in the preparation of WPS, PQR, and WPQ records.
  • Re-certification of Welders and Welding Operators.
  • Understand the requirements of ASME sec. IX for Procedure Qualifications
  • Know the common NDT methods used in industry
  • The principle and Methodology of common NDT methods
  • Merits and demerits of NDT methods
