Course Overview:

This Painting, Coating and Thermal Insulation course encompasses relevant areas such as the chemistry of liquid applied coatings, surface preparation and the selection of the coating systems which will encompass work in this field.

It is anticipated that participants will be able to understand the difference between organic coatings and its inorganic counterpart, appreciate their individual features, and undertake routine testing and qualification procedures.

The course coverage of the objectives also includes coating technology and the thermal insulation materials technology as well as their applications.

It goes into modern coatings science, the impact of resins, pigments, solvents, and additives, and suggests ways to expand the current coating technology. Suited for planning, supervisory or technical staff in relation to protective coatings and linings.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply and gain in-depth knowledge on painting, coating and thermal insulation
  • Emphasize the uses of coating and lining, employ the best practices and identify external factors that influence their uses
  • Explain the process of the chemistry of liquid applied and coating formulation chemistry.
  • Differentiate organic and inorganic coatings.
  • Describe the coating characteristics including the basic chemistry and unique characteristics that affect surface preparation and application needs.
  • Employ the common test and qualification method for liquid-applied coating and identify the chemistry of non-liquid coatings
  • Carryout the unique application and quality control methods for important non-liquid coatings.
  • Interpret the testing coating properties and performance as well as the coating defects and substrates.
  • Recognize the various coating system types including system selection, goals, objectives, performance requirements, design engineered properties, and trade-offs
  • Identify the coating specification including the eliminating ambiguity and proper implementation
  • Discuss thermal insulation covering the type specification, materials, and application
  • Differentiate coating and thermal insulation and develop surveys and maintenance program
  • Coverage of contemporary coatings science topics
  • Technology to understand and solve coatings needs while meeting existing environmental regulations
  • How to select appropriate coatings components
  • How to overcome the limitations of contemporary coatings technology
  • The role of resins and polymers, pigments, solvents, and additives in a coatings formulation; the function that each plays in the manufacture and performance of polymeric coatings
  • Interactions between coatings components
