Course Overview:

The TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding course aims at training participants effectively with TIG welding processes and its principles of safety.

At the end of the training, the participants will be able to explain the definition of TIG welding, its advantages and disadvantages, the types of electrodes, gases and filler rods used in the process. 4

The course teaches students the correct ways to prepare tungsten electrodes, the positions for welding and how to control the TIG torch.

It further includes safety hazards and controls and practical skills in welding of carbon steel plates and pipes and stainless steel.

The course is appropriate for welding technologists, engineers and inspectors; especially those involved in the work of pressure vessels, piping, and welding inspection across a variety of industries.

Course Objectives:

Upon the successful completion of this course, the participants should be able to:

  • State the definition, advantages, and disadvantages of tungsten inert gas welding;
  • State the definition, advantages, and disadvantages of tungsten inert gas welding;
  • Select and distinguish different types of electrodes and protective gases;
  • Demonstrate the proper method of preparing/reshaping the tungsten electrode for welding with AC or
  • Select the correct size and type of filler rod;
  • Identify potential hazards and apply control measures for a safe welding process;
  • Demonstrate the proper TIG welding torch manipulation techniques;
  • Demonstrate a variety of TIG welds in different welding position using carbon steel plate, stainless
  • Demonstrate the proper method of TIG welding in carbon steel pipe in different welding positionsSelect test coupons to minimize overall cost of qualification and writing WPSs so that optimum flexibility is achieved.

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideally suited for Welding technicians & Engineers in all industries especially for people who are involved in welding activities on Pressure vessels and piping. This course will be beneficial for Plant inspectors, Third-party inspectors and Shop inspectors, QA/QC personnel, and others who are involved in welding inspection preparing welding specifications, qualifying welders, reviewing sub-contractor procedures, etc.

 Course Outlines:

This course will cover your level of experience and specific needs, but we’ll always cover the following areas:

  • Arc welding safety.
  • TIG welding basics – tacking, fusion welds, sheet metal fillets.
  • Advanced TIG welding – foot pedal, pulse, thick-thin, complex shapes.
  • Cycle frame specific – thin-walled tube-tube joins.
